AFTERCARE

  1. Bandage Removal

No Second Skin? Skip to Step 2! :)

Leave your second skin on for 1-5 days (unless you develop a rash! If you do, take it off!)

To remove second skin: At the end of a shower, pull slowly at one corner from the bottom, out and away from you. Key word “slowly” folx, we don’t need you waxing your new tattoo away!

2. Immediate Care

Gently wash all the extra plasma and ink off your skin with cool water and an unscented soap. Just use your fingers, no cloths or anything that could rough up your sensitive skin at the moment.

3. Moisturizing

Apply a small amount of unscented moisturizer to the tattoo, and gently rub it in with your finger. Do not use vaseline on your tattoo. Also, avoid using polysporin (unless you notice any signs of infection: Redness, excessive pain/swelling, warmth etc). If it doesn’t clear up, please consult a physician and also let me know!

Why unscented? Usually alcohol is used as a stabilizer in products and the alcohol will both dry out and aid in the removal of pigment in your fresh healing tattoo.

Apply moisturizer 1-2 times a day at most, and make sure you wash your hands before and after.

4. Washing

Make sure your new tattoo is kept clean! This also applies to any clothes/sheets that may be covering it. Time for the clean stuff!

Part of keeping your tattoo clean means washing it 1-2 times a day with unscented soap and cool water when needed.

5. Other Info

Sunlight? No.

Soaking? Also no.

I know, what a bummer—but don’t shoot the messanger! Soaking and sun will absolutely cause harm to your tattoo within the first 6 weeks (that is a month and a half).

Remember when you were a kid, and your scabs magically vanished when you swam around in the lake? We want those little skin flakes to hold on for as long as possible—that is where all the magic and pigment is held!

Your tattoo is gonna get really itchy and flaky. Don’t scratch or pick!

Even after your tattoo heals, the longevity of your skin (and as a consequence, your tattoo) will depend on your use of sun protection and moisturizer throughout the years. If you want to keep it in the best state forever, take care of your health and your skin!

We are all going to age, but at least you’re going to look cool doing it! :)
